Dear Readers,
Sorry about the lack of an update last week. Our Thanksgiving week went sideways for a number of reasons, including a health insurance débâcle that involved countless phone calls to three different companies. It should be all taken care of now, but it took a lot out of me and that’s why this latest message to you has been delayed.
The image I’ve included above is from page 2 of issue 3 of The Blood of Seven Queens, which I will begin sharing with paid subscribers next week. This issue finds our heroine, Frieda Jacobs, visiting the first of seven monarchs she must convince to join her fight against the Wizard of Oz and his cronies. And this image in particular is from a flashback to one of Frieda’s royal ancestors, who can be seen here walking with her husband and two children in the days before she became a queen.
Issue 3 is coming together swimmingly and I can’t wait to share it with you. I know that my eldest daughter, Kaylee, is waiting for it with great interest. She finished issue 2 and immediately came to me to talk about all the places her interest was piqued and all of the little cliffhangers she can’t wait to see resolved.
That was a great feeling.
Also great: it’s WorldEmber over at World Anvil, my worldbuilding website of choice. WorldEmber is a month of freeform writing that I use each year to build up the lore and backstory I’ll need to reference in the following year, and I just love it. You can see my progress on WorldEmber here.
And that’s all for now. Join me next time for the beginning of our six-week countdown to issue #3. There will be art and excitement and… something else, though I’m not sure what.
Yours,
Chris
