Dear Readers,
This week has been filled with ups and downs, just like any week, but I have four new pages of issue 1 to show for it. I also have another bit of very cool news that I’m a little too superstitious to share with you until it’s final, but rest assured that thinks are looking up here in the Clarkwoods.
Regarding the four new pages of issue 1, those’ll show up down below for paid subs. But before we get to that, I want to share a couple of sneak peeks and updates.
The first sneak is of the inside front cover. I’d been struggling with ways to help set the scene for the first issue and for the series as a whole, but then I had a revelation today that I could use the inside cover to do a kind of Star Wars-style crawl/recap.
I’m really happy with it, so far. No guarantees it makes it to print in exactly this form, but I’m doing my best not to strive for perfection here and I think it might just be good enough.
In other news, I ended up going back through the first eight pages of the book today to make a change to the lettering. The cool handwritten narration style I was trying, inspired by Fiona Staples’ work on Saga, just wasn’t working. I just had too much text, not enough space, and had to keep reducing the font size to make everything fit.
I did get upset with myself for a little bit, and I considered going back to square one. But in the spirit of accepting “good enough” and not striving for perfection, I’ve just decided to make the best of what I’ve got for this issue and then to try and be less verbose going forward.
Alright, that’s all for this week. Free subscribers, I’ll see you back next week with more. Paid subs, keep scrolling for your look at pages 5–8 of Blood of Seven Queens #1.
Yours,
Chris
