Dear Readers,
In a couple of weeks, I’m going to try something new with the comic. I’m going to bring it to one of the biggest marketplaces for independent comics that there is today: Kickstarter.
Kickstarter, if you’re not familiar, is a fundraising platform for creative projects. I’ve used the site twice before and I’m batting .500, but I think I’ve learned a lot since my last attempt and there’s nothing but upside here. The comic is already done. I’m going to keep doing it whether the Kickstarter is successful or not. I just want to see if I can reach a new audience.
“But Chris,” I hear you asking, “why are you waiting two weeks? Why not do it now?”
Okay, maybe you’re not asking that. But the nasty, judgmental voice in my head is. And the answer I’ll give you is the same one I gave him: I’m on vacation next week and I want it to be an actual fucking vacation. Sooooo, I’ll launch the Kickstarter when I get back.
In the meantime, I’m happy to report that I now have 8 pages of issue 2 done and that I’ve written responses to the final six prompts for Worldbuilding Summer Camp. In case you’re looking for something to read, here’s your weekly links:
A somber piece on how imaginary friends die
A less somber piece about how genies are made
A silly one about how William Shakespeare will kinda-sorta be a character in the comic
A tongue-in-cheek article about a pair of sand dunes that are shaped like a butt
A field for playing human chess in my post-apocalyptic paradise that’s been built to resemble Fenway Park
And that’s all for now. I’m off camping next week, so I’ll see you back here in a fortnight to talk about the Kickstarter.
Yours,
Chris
