Dear Readers,
Though I won’t know until tomorrow if any of my work made it to the finals of the World Anvil Worldbuilding Awards, I want to thank everyone who took the time to vote for me. I also want to pause and thank you for your attention each week, or however often you find the time to read one of these messages. Your support of me and my work means a great deal to me.
Next time, I’ll begin sharing images from issue #4 of The Blood of Seven Queens. I’m excited to get back to the sharing of art, which feels like what this space was meant for. At some point, I’ll figure out how to better fill the time between issues. But until then, I hope you’ll stay with me through these hodgepodge smörgåsbord in-between days and weeks.
The only real news I have to share this time around is that I’m considering pushing back the release schedule for the second half of the year, all so that I can get a good solid chunk of time to catch my breath and solve some of the persistent problems I run up against when creating the art for the comic. I haven’t decided for sure yet, but rest assured that I’ll let you know once I know.
Assuming that I do end up knowing at some point. At the end each episode of G.I. Joe back in the 1980s, they used to say that “knowing is half the battle.” That said, they never prepared us for the fact that it’s the hard half of the battle.
Anyway…
The main challenge I’ll be trying to tackle, if I decide to give myself that breathing room, is how to efficiently create establishing shots for the comic. I have such clear visions in my head of what I want to see on the page when I write “Establishing shot of the Emerald City,” but I always struggle to bring those visions to reality. I’m hoping that if I spend a good chunk of time researching and practicing, I can get better at it before I bump up against the problem again.
That’s all for now. I’ll see you back here next week with your first sneak peeks at issue #4.
Yours,
Chris
