Dear Readers,
The world is a bit of a mess right now. That’s why I wanted to share the image above, which is taken from page 21 of issue 2 of The Blood of Seven Queens. The visual of Aesling O’Briar taking refuge by the fire after a traumatic incident in her life gives me comfort. And as a monstrous hurricane barrels towards one of this comic book’s most ardent supporters, my friend Kitoypoy, the image gives me hope. Shit’s about to get real bad, not just for Kit, his family, and for other family and friends I have down there in Florida, but for all Floridians. But they’re strong people, just like Aesling here. They’ll get through it. I have to believe that they will.
Just as I have to believe that my country will somehow survive the contentious election season we’re now in the midst of. Just as I have to believe that peace and justice will return to other corners of the world, corners where despotism and genocide are running rampant.
I have to. For a pessimist, I’m actually pretty optimistic.
In the middle of all of this, I’ve recently had myself a nice birthday and a successful Kickstarter launch. In case you haven’t heard, the Kickstarter fundraising campaign for The Blood of Seven Queens #1 and #2 was at 60% of its $500 goal by the end of day 1 and had reached the goal by the end of day 3. Right now, as I type this to you, we’ve raised $690 total—nearly two hundred dollars more than the initial goal for the campaign—and we still have 10 days to go.
To say I’m pleased by these developments would be an understatement. I feel validated and loved and I can’t wait for folks to dive into these stories.
I hope that, if you’re interested in reading The Blood of Seven Queens, you’ll back the campaign. For $10 you can get digital copies of the first two issues and $25 you can get print copies. The $25 includes shipping, BTW.
That’s all for now. Check back next time for a full eight-page preview of issue 2. And if you’re a paying subscriber, keep on scrolling for your sneak peek at the final 4 pages of the issue.
Yours,
Chris
